The SFC Tree-Planting Ceremony in Memory of Professor Emeritus Naoyuki Agawa was held at the ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC) on Wednesday, December 4, from 3:00 p.m.
The ceremony was attended by members from within ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡, including Vice-President Tsuchiya; Dean Kamo of the Faculty of Policy Management; Dean Ichinose of the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies; Dean Takashio of the Graduate School of Media and Governance; and other faculty and staff.
Following remarks by Vice-President Tsuchiya, a flowering dogwood tree was planted. The flowering dogwood is known as the tree sent from the United States in return for Japan's gift of cherry trees in 1912. The flowering dogwood was chosen in honor of Professor Emeritus Agawa, who specialized in U.S. constitutional history.
The flowering dogwood tree is planted halfway up Tallow Slope, near the "Stainless Tree" sculpture.
Professor Emeritus Naoyuki Agawa graduated from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, studied at its law school, and was admitted to the bar in New York State and the District of Columbia. After working at law firms in Japan and the United States, he became a professor at the Faculty of Policy Management at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡, and went on to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Policy Management and Vice-President of ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡.
