ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ will confer upon Mr. Richard L. Armitage a Doctorate Degree Honoris Causa.
Mr. Armitage is a distinguished leader in the U.S. foreign and national security policy community, with a deep knowledge and appreciation of Japan. What are commonly known as the Armitage-Nye Reports, authored by Mr. Armitage in conjunction with Harvard University Professor Joseph Nye and others, helped redefine Japan-U.S. relations, which had become adrift after the Cold War.
Serving as the Deputy Secretary of State for the George W. Bush administration from 2001 and as the foremost expert on Asia and Japan, Secretary Armitage contributed greatly to ensuring the stabilization of regional security in Asia.
Mr. Armitage has made enormous contributions to the globalization of educational and research initiatives at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ through the Armitage Program, which was initiated in the 2017 academic year, where graduate students at the Mita and Shonan Fujisawa Campus participate in seminars or short-term placements in the U.S.
As an expression of its esteem for his contributions and with high recommendation from the Graduate School of Media and Governance, ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ bestows a Doctorate Degree Honoris Causa upon Mr. Richard L. Armitage.
To commemorate this conferral, a lecture by Mr. Armitage will be held as follows. We welcome your participation.
