What are "ruins"? "Ruins" are places where traces of human activity exist, and their details are revealed through excavation. During the construction of the East Annex on Mita Campus, which serves as the base of operations for the ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Museum Commons (KeMCo), excavations conducted by ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ from 2018 to 2019 yielded numerous records and artifacts from the Jomon to the Edo periods. However, this does not represent all the traces left on this land. Excavation is an act of selection, and "ruins" and "history" are constructed through this selection. This exhibition will not only display the excavated artifacts and research findings that are the results of this selection but will also focus on and introduce what was not selected.
Additionally, a video installation from a collaborative project with contemporary artist Kenji Yamada, centered on the theme of "artifacts," will also be on display.
We hope this exhibition will provide an opportunity to reconsider the nature of "ruins" and "history" from various perspectives.
