The "Mita Media Center (ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Library) Exhibition of Rare Books" showcases rare books from the Mita Media Center (ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Library)'s collection, with each exhibition focusing on a specific theme and open to the public. The event attracts many visitors each year, and this year marks its 34th installment.
This year, the 34th exhibition will feature autographs and autograph letters of Confucian scholars and Chinese-style poets from the Edo period, drawn from the collection of the Mita Media Center (ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Library). "Literati" (bunjin) refers to people who studied Confucianism and were involved in politics and academics to apply their knowledge for the betterment of society, while also being active in literary and artistic fields such as Chinese poetry and calligraphy. The exhibition will present the writings and calligraphic works left by these individuals in nine sections, tracing them chronologically. The main literati featured are Hayashi Razan, Arai Hakuseki, Ogy¨± Sorai, Nakane T¨ri, the Kamei family (Nanmei, Sh¨y¨, Sh¨kin), the Koga family (Seiri, T¨an, Kind¨), Yamanashi Inagawa, the Yasui family (Sokken, Kotar¨), and Mori ?gai and Nagai Kaf¨±. With the cooperation of the Media Centers not only in Mita but also in Hiyoshi and Shinanomachi, and the ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡-affiliated Institute of Oriental Classics (Shido Bunko), which holds many related materials, we have gathered a selection of the finest items from the entire collection of the Juku.
