ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡
Fumihiko Maki (1928¨C), who studied at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ and Harvard University, is a modernist architect who has been active worldwide since establishing his own practice. His architecture is characterized not only by its modern forms but also by designs that are based on a deep understanding of the environment surrounding the buildings.
This exhibition focuses on Fumihiko Maki's work on the ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC). Unlike other campuses, Maki was consistently involved in the SFC from the very beginning of its construction, handling the grand design, including the buildings and their arrangement. Here, Maki had the opportunity to realize his long-advocated concept of "group form" on a larger scale. Using "group form," which emphasizes the relationship between individual buildings and the connections between them, as a key, this exhibition explores what Maki aimed to achieve at the SFC.
