ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡

The year 2022 marks the 150th anniversary of the introduction of baseball to Japan. ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ has left numerous indelible marks on the history of Japanese baseball, and its traditional series against Waseda University, the "Waseda-ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ rivalry," is considered one of the world's three great collegiate sports rivalries. In contrast to the Waseda style of "ikkyu nyukon" (putting one's soul into every ball) and "yakyudo" (the way of baseball), which has become widespread in the baseball world, ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ has advocated for "Enjoy Baseball," presenting a different perspective on the sport. This stance was historically formed and can be traced back to Fukuzawa Yukichi and the very origins of baseball in Japan.

This exhibition situates ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ baseball within the context of modern Japanese history, traces the intellectual history surrounding baseball through valuable materials from Japanese baseball history, and considers the contemporary significance of "Enjoy Baseball."

This is an opportunity to see valuable materials. We hope you will visit the exhibition.
