"Study Abroad" Under Faculty Rules
Study abroad can take many different forms according to their period, purpose, and organizer.?However, "Study Abroad (ryugaku)¡± under the Undergraduate Faculty Rules and Regulations is approved only when students take regular courses at overseas universities or other higher education institutions together with students at the host institution.
Other types such as participation in foreign language training programs or taking courses at a community college are not officially recognized as "Study Abroad," and students are required to take a leave of absence from ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡.
Basic Information on Study Abroad
If you are thinking of studying abroad, a good place to start is the International Center website where you can find a comprehensive overview of study abroad. It also contains detailed information on the ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ Student Exchange Program organized by the International Center.
On the other hand, Faculty-wide exchange programs, Double Degree Programs, and Five-Year BA/MA programs are organized by the Faculty of Economics, and eligibility and requirements for these programs may differ from those for the university-wide exchange program. Therefore, please be sure to read the information on the webpage for each program.?

The first one is organized by the International Center and the other three programs are offered by the Faculty of Economics.?
Language Proficiency and Academic Performance
When applying for study abroad, applicants are required to submit documentation demonstrating proficiency in the language of instruction at the host university (i.e., the language used in the courses they plan to take).?It is also important to maintain good academic performance. Some partner institutions have specific GPA score requirements.
Academic Fees and Expenses
Under outbound exchange programs, students pay tuition to ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡, and tuition at the host university is waived. On the other hand, in some Double Degree and BA/MA programs, students pay tuition to the host university and tuition at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ is waived.
In some cases, scholarships may be available from ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡, the host institution, or the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
Health Insurance
In all study abroad programs, participants are required to enroll in a medical insurance plan such as study abroad health insurance.?
Credit Transfer and Enrollment Period Inclusion Procedures
You may apply to have credits earned at the host university transferred and recognized as ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ credits. In addition, by applying to have your study abroad period included as an enrollment period at ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡, you may be able to graduate in a total of four years.
