Exploring Interests Broadly and Starting Research Early

Aspiring to Make New Discoveries as a Researcher

Medicine has been familiar to me since I was a child, but every time my symptoms improved after taking medicine, I wondered what it meant for "medicine to work." In high school biology, I learned about various phenomena occurring in the body, and I wanted to learn about the mechanism of how medicine works in such a complex human body, so I applied to the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Regarding the choice of department, I have always liked dedicating myself to one thing continuously, and since I had a desire to make new discoveries as a researcher, I chose the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences where I can immerse myself in research.

Participating in Joint Research with Other Universities and Hospitals

The laboratory I belong to has a friendly atmosphere, and I believe it provides an environment where research can proceed freely. Regarding experiments, professors and seniors teach me carefully from the basics. In the conferences held twice a week, we share our respective research contents in a presentation format, which leads to a series of new insights and discoveries. On the other hand, I am also participating in joint research with other universities and hospitals, which has been a very valuable experience.

After graduation, I plan to go to graduate school and further deepen my current research. From the discovery of substances that become the source of medicine to research and development, approval, and sales, there are many processes before a medicine is released to the world and reaches patients. In the future, I want to be involved in some part of that process.

Expanding Friendships Through Club Activities

I belong to the Faculty of Pharmacy Badminton Team. I served as the captain until the spring of my third year, and we had fun activities regardless of whether members were beginners or experienced. Since the Faculty of Pharmacy clubs are communities of students from the same faculty, you can meet friends with whom you can share your daily campus life.

Also, during my first year at the Hiyoshi Campus, I belonged to a Hiyoshi club open to all faculties. Joining a club that includes other faculties allows you to expand your circle of friends even further.

Choosing the Perfect Laboratory for Yourself

I believe the strength of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Faculty of Pharmacy is the environment that allows students to concentrate on research from an early stage. Since assignment to a laboratory happens in the fall of the third year, you can start your research earlier compared to other universities. Additionally, a major attraction is that you can find where your interests lie while studying a wide range of subjects from physics to biology and chemistry during your first and second years, and then think about what you want to research. The laboratories are diverse and abundant, including physics-based, chemistry-based, biology-based, clinical-based, and information-based, so you can choose the laboratory that is perfect for you.

I hope everyone will do their best with their own beliefs as a compass so that they have no regrets. If you have an entrance exam experience without regrets, you will surely be able to lead a university life without regrets. Please continue to spare no effort after enrollment and make the path you have chosen the right one.
