High-Quality Learning and Generous Support Possible Only in Small Groups

The Many Reasons I Chose ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡

I have been interested in medical professions for a long time. When I was in high school, because I enjoy interacting with people, I decided I wanted to become a nurse¡ªthe medical professional who can interact most closely with patients.

My reasons for applying to ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡ included the fact that it is a comprehensive university, that cutting-edge research is being conducted there, and that I felt I could obtain high-quality learning. Furthermore, many of the respectable people who have helped me so far have connections to ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡, and wanting to learn in the same environment was another reason.

Proactively Participating in Special Practicums Across the Three Medical Faculties

Classes can be broadly divided into three types: lectures, seminars, and practicums. The flow of learning allows us to acquire knowledge in lectures, master it as a skill through on-campus seminars, and then put it into practice during practicums at hospitals and facilities. Some lectures even involve using 3D printers to create caregiving and nursing supplies, allowing us to gain a wide range of knowledge and skills to support patients' lives.

Joint education is also conducted across the three medical faculties: the School of Medicine, the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, and the Faculty of Pharmacy. Among these is a special practicum for regional diagnosis in Wakkanai, which only volunteers participate in; I participated as a member in my first year and as a facilitator in my second year. By working with students from other medical faculties for about two weeks, I gained a multifaceted perspective. I also gained various experiences, such as interacting with local high school students in the hygiene and nursing department and conducting special classes and experiments at elementary and junior high schools.

Connections Between Students, Faculty, and Alumni

There are also opportunities to hear from people who are actually active in various fields using their nursing qualifications. Through the professors, we can connect with alumni and nursing professionals engaged in a wide variety of activities.

Additionally, since there are only about 100 students per grade, the ability to form strong connections across year levels is an attractive feature. Even during independent practice to master skills, we can receive advice and guidance by contacting faculty offices. Because of the small group size, the support is generous, and I have been able to obtain the high-quality learning I expected before enrollment.

Aiming to Become a Certified Nurse Specialist in Pediatrics

In the future, I want to be involved in the field of pediatrics and obtain certification as a Certified Nurse Specialist in pediatrics. In clinical practice, I aim to be a nurse who respects children's wishes and provides support so they can do what they want to do as much as possible without holding back, even while undergoing treatment.

At ÎçÒ¹¾ç³¡'s Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care, anyone can study high-quality nursing and medical care regardless of gender. The environment is also set up so that you can pursue what you want to do. I hope that everyone will proactively take on challenges in things they are interested in and have a fulfilling university life.
